Adaptive Pickleball is a 501c3 nonprofit in the Upstate South Carolina area that teaches people with physical, cognitive, and developmental challenges how to play pickleball. Founder Sandy Halkett and a team of volunteer coaches use the game as therapy, with players building fitness, making friends, and experiencing competition. The organization started with three Pickleball Play Days in Greenville in 2020 and has expanded to Spartanburg, Blue Ridge, Clemson, and Lexington, with plans for over 125 free Play Days in 2026, plus Veterans Play Pickleball sessions for the military community. Paddles are provided and registration is required. Organizations in other states and countries contact it to learn its program model.
